Our house project had now taken on a life of its own. While the school and contractor were busy getting ready for us we spent our time finishing our plans with the designer and hammering out details with the contractor. Plans were made to break ground at the beginning of March.
March was coming fast and there were a few things we needed to do before building. Ocean Oasis came with grape vines and several beautiful roses and perennials. We pruned the grapes, moved the perennials out of harm's way and John and a friend cut down and hauled away the dead cedars and some cherry trees. The kids were ok with losing their fort - it hadn't been used since the spider spotting. I was told by the previous owner's daughter that the cherry trees were grown from pits and the cherries were small and not very good. Plus they were right in the middle of the yard and although we love cherries when they drop and the wasps are everywhere it is too dangerous for the kids. We had a few stings this summer with our tree. So we decided to take the cherry trees down but we were able to keep the plum tree, the gorgeous dogwood tree and the hazelnut and walnut trees.
John ended up taking 20 loads of branches off the lot, with some help from the kids.
